Charles Wright Academy Welcomes Jonathan Smith as New Director of Finance

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Jonathan Smith as our new Director of Finance. Jonathan comes to us most recently from the Tacoma Art Museum (TAM), where he is currently the Director of Finance and has also served previously as both their Controller and Finance Manager.

While at TAM, Jonathan gained experience managing their $35 million endowment, and a robust annual operating budget, overseeing many areas of operations, and all aspects of strategic financial planning and day to day execution. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business from the University of Puget Sound, and he is a Certified Public Accountant in Washington state.

A graduate of an independent school (Stevenson School, CA) himself, Jonathan remarked in the interview process about how eager he was to work in an independent school community similar to his own. In particular, he noted that his experience gave him such confidence and preparation to navigate the world. He recalled his experience on a “Sophomore Hike” that Stevenson required of all 10th grade students and how it “changed his life.”

In his letter of interest, Jonathan spoke of his alignment with and connection to the school’s mission of “Active, Joyful, Learning” for students. He spoke inspirationally to all of us about how the finance office can and should support programs for students every day in the here and now, and always be looking toward the future.

Please join us in welcoming Jonathan to the Charles Wright community!
